There’s Nothing Here, Except Everything.

Rob Grad at Christopher Martin Gallery
Dallas, TX

Each artwork contrasts vignettes of desert landscapes, symbolizing a thirst for making a connection with the divine, with references to graffiti and street art, and a desire to make a mark on the world. The visuals draw inspiration from my poems.

The works are three dimensional photographs, which are painted, drawn and carved into after being laser cut and physically layered on top of each other.

Each one comes with a signed companion poem which provides additional context and insight into the artwork. Click on each artwork below to see detail and read the poem.

If you have any questions or would like to discuss the work further, please contact me.

ABOUT ROB

Southern California native, Rob Grad’s heavily layered visuals contrast photographic vignettes of natural and urban environments, with drawing, painting and his words, using a wide array of materials. Each of his works is a story written between the artist, subject, and viewer. His art creates windows through which we see, feel and wonder. Most importantly, he reassures us that hiding behind the contradictions and chaos, there is a world full of beauty and hope. He has shown in museums, galleries and art fairs from Basel to Miami, and Los Angeles. He will have work featured at the Museum of Art and History in Lancaster, CA as part of the Getty’s PST initiative in 2024. His work is also held in private collections. He gave a TEDx Talk in Culver City, CA, and participated in a video project for TikTok China.
