Overthrow the Quo
After years of quarreling, my parents finally divorced when I was 16. My childhood had a huge impact on me. I experimented with drugs for awhile until I found music, which turned into a 20 year career. Through my songwriting, I searched for ways to cope, process and find answers to my many questions about life and my place in it. Those same threads are woven into my visual work.
In Overthrow the Quo, I question the status quo or established belief systems, both in our society and my own personal life. The TV news is as dramatic today as any movie or scripted series. We face the same existential questions as a society, as I wrestle with personally. In this series, I draw correlations between this internal quest, and our collective path. The work does not take a side on specifics, as much as it illustrates my feelings about coming up against an establishment or established way of thinking, whether it’s my own thoughts or an external system.
