Working Out the Kinks is a series in progress. Layers of lines, shapes, paint splatters and photography fuse together to express multiple ideas which on the surface do not necessarily cohabit easily.
We are hardwired to minimize cognitive dissonance when we are presented with new information which challenges our current belief system or conclusions. Biased news channels and social media algorithms support this subjugation into idealogical echo chambers, only showing us content which supports our current world view.
This series is an exploration of wrestling with opposing viewpoints, the challenges and opportunities they present, and how they influence our direct experience with the outside world. Whether they play themselves out on the news, in social media, in our relationships, or in our own heads.
Each work consists of acrylic, spray paint and simulated multiple exposure photography on sheets of transparent plexiglass, layered with 1/4” of space between.
