Rob began his career as a musician. He started writing songs to cope with his parents’ divorce at age 16 and was signed to RCA Records before his 21st birthday. He wound up on a wild ride of making albums, videos, touring and appearing on MTV. During days off on tour, while his bandmates were sightseeing or at local malls, he visited museums.
His interest in visual art grew, and in 2010, Rob created his first solo show which featured images he shot during his travels, layers of plexiglass, and other materials. Since then, his work has become more complex and sculptural, combining multiple shapes, layers and images, with his abstract paintings and words.
Rob shows in museums, galleries and art fairs from Basel to Miami, and Los Angeles. He has commissioned work in the San Francisco airport, Hudson Pacific Properties, El Rancho Properties, the Zildjian corporate offices in Boston and Los Angeles, LA’s Griffin Athletic Club, and his work is held in private collections. He recently installed his commissioned 32 foot wall sculpture in a corporate office building in Los Angeles, a 25 foot work for the foyer of the Museum of Art and History in Lancaster, CA and a commissioned, 8 foot free standing outdoor sculpture at an apartment complex in San Jose, CA.
Rob gave a TEDx Talk in Culver City, CA about authenticity in art and following the internal muse and participated in a video project for TikTok China. He also writes a blog about his art practice called The Creativesphere, and speaks to students in schools about the importance of learning to think creatively not only in making art, but how it relates to solving problems in today’s culture and society.
